Dan Crary
At 12:00pm you will have the opportunity to experience Dan Crary whom is one of the few steel string guitar players who has earned the
label of “legendary.” He brings with him not only an international
reputation for taste and virtuosity, but also his ability to draw audiences in
close to experience the beauty of Americana instrumentals and songs.
Crary comes to us as one of the innovators who helped bring the guitar out
of 20th century obscurity to its place today as the “instrument of
humanity,” international and universal. His playing moves from the
quietly beautiful to the strikingly powerful and back again; it’s a journey to
enjoy and remember.
Kitka Women's Vocal Ensemble
At 2:30pm, Kitka Women's Vocal Ensemble will present a program they call "Summer Solstice". For nearly four decades the nine-women Oakland ensemble has developed a vast, breathtaking repertoire of exquisitely harmonized folk songs from Balkan, Baltic, Caucasus, and Slavic lands, as well as new material composed for the group drawing on those traditional vocal practices. Traveling to rural communities in Armenia, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Georgia, Poland, Macedonia and Turkey they’ve gathered songs and communed with elders who are often the last links to centuries-old traditions. The ravishing textures of the women’s voices, and unearthly cadences make Kitka’s performances an enthralling experience.
